When Virginia Key shines
The skyline sits to the west, so the light changes a lot with the time of day. We pick the moment based on the photo you want and the access the area allows.
- Sunrise: soft light on your face and the city in pink tones. Our favorite hour here.
- Sunset: the sun drops behind the towers; ideal for silhouettes and bold skies.
- Season: November to April is usually drier; from May to October we plan around showers and heat.
- Near the mangroves and around dusk there can be mosquitoes, so bring repellent. We respect the dunes and beach plants and stay off them.
What to wear for beach and city
Fabrics that move in the breeze work best here, in colors that stand out against blue water and pale sand.
- Long chiffon or linen dresses in white, coral, terracotta or navy.
